Redden was in the Clark County District Court being sentenced for an attempted battery charge with substantial bodily harm when the attack took place.

He pleaded guilty to the crime in November and was arrested in December after missing a court appearance.

During the sentencing, his lawyer requested that his client get off on probation, but Judge Holthus said: "I think it's time he get a taste of something else.

"I can't with that history," she said of the two-time felon, video captured by CBS affiliate KLAS reveals.

A commotion could then be heard as Redden raced from his seat and launched himself at a wide-eyed Holthus who ducked for cover.

The nearby marshal and clerk met Redden with equal force as the crazed criminal thrashed around by the bench.

Redden managed to injure the marshal before he was finally restrained, the local outlet reported.

The marshal was taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Holthus hit her head during the tussle but was in OK condition afterward, sources told KLAS.

In a statement, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson confirmed that Judge Holthus wasn't seriously injured.

"Thank God for the heroic efforts of those who came to her aid, especially her marshal and her law clerk," Wolfson wrote.

"Without then, the situation would have been much worse as this defendant exhibited extremely violent behavior and I'm confident there will be consequences."

Redden was investigated by detected after he threatened to "bust the kneecaps" of another man on April 23, documents state.

A different judge ruled in May that he should undergo a competency test and be committed to a state behavioral facility.

In October, the judge found that Redden was competent.

After Redden missed a court appointment, he was arrested in December and slammed with new charges of battery and battery of a protected person after he allegedly seriously injured a victim, police said.

He was due in court on Thursday for a hearing covering those charges.

Redden has pleaded guilty and been convicted of three felony cases.

He spent time in prison for domestic violence in 2021 and was found guilty of battery three years before.

In 2015, he was convicted of attempted theft.

Redden previously made an appearance in front of Judge Holthus for charges of destruction of property, records show.

Judge Holthus was elected to her position in January 2019 after working for the district attorney's office for more than 27 years.

She had extensive experience with the Special Victims Unit where she sought justice for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
