A number of tents were erected at the home following the discovery of alleged "unknown substances". Police, ambulance and fire crews were spotted in an area of the nearby housing estate, on Tuesday. They have since been removed although two police vans and what is believed to be an unmarked police car remain at the scene.

Kwan, 52, was remanded in custody at Newcastle Magistrates' Court following a brief hearing this morning. The doctor, who was wearing a yellow striped shirt and black trousers, did not enter any pleas and he was told he will next be before Newcastle Crown Court on March 6.
