Silent on hate

HATRED towards Jews is now at record levels in Britain.

That the party aiming to lead our multicultural country should remain mired in anti-Semitism is deeply shocking.

Yet that is the position would-be PM Keir Starmer finds himself in.

Having dithered over Azhar Ali’s racist lies about Israel, he is now clamming up over which party members were at that Rochdale meeting.

Why is he not immediately rooting out those councillors and activists who — even by remaining silent — endorsed such a hateful attack?

Desperate to keep a lid on it all, Sir Keir is employing the same keep-schtum tactics used after the infamous Durham beer and curry night during the Covid lockdown.

This lack of transparency is highly damaging to Labour.

Starmer’s colossal U-turn over his £28billion green plans may well be behind his party falling seven points in the latest Savanta poll.

And, yes, it may be only one poll.

But voters value honesty, leadership and a commitment to sincerely held beliefs.

Something which has been woefully lacking during the chaotic past seven days.

Ease squeeze

LET’S be honest. A slip into a technical recession after two quarters of negative growth may not be ideal.

But should that come today it will be far from the devastating blow Remainer doomsters would have you believe.

Brexit Britain has done remarkably well to avoid the kind of economic implosion suffered by the likes of Germany and Italy.

With inflation unexpectedly holding steady, food prices coming down and wage growth slowing, now is the time to free some of the shackles.

The Bank of England must cut interest rates as soon as possible.

And Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has to reduce taxes to ease the burden on squeezed families.

It’s the only way to avoid a real slump.

Off the rails

WHAT kind of union deliberately sets out in advance to inflict six months of pain on ordinary people?

Aslef has already received a generous Government pay deal for train driver members of £65,000 a year for a four-day week.

Its hard-left boss Mick Whelan refuses to even put that offer to a ballot.

Voting for strike action until at least the Autumn — a few weeks before a possible General Election — is proof he won’t stop until the real aim is achieved.

Derailing a Tory Government.
