Emmanuel Petit has torn into Thiago Silva’s wife for her social media outburst directed at Mauricio Pochettino - despite her public apology.

Silva’s long-term partner Belle, took to social media in the aftermath of Chelsea ’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of Wolves at Stamford Bridge. She claimed it was “time to change”, a statement she has since backtracked on and apologised for.

That has not satisfied Petit, who has been left furious and condemned her actions. Speaking to Betway, the Frenchman said: “This is exactly what happens in modern football.

“It could be his wife, his brother or someone close to the family. I totally disagree with it. It wasn't the first time his wife has spoken out and, to be honest, I was unhappy when I saw what she said because it was not the first time.”

The former Chelsea star added: “She did it with Tuchel and with so many other people. Everyone is allowed an opinion but if my wife did it, I would be in trouble in the dressing room with players, staff, management and owners the following day. I can understand that some fans are happy with what she has done but I'm not happy about it, I'm not happy at all.

“Again, everyone has the freedom to say what they feel but you have to be very careful, especially when you criticise the boss and take a dig at the manager in the public domain like this. I really, really don't appreciate it. What she has said doesn't help anyone.”

Petit is not the only one to have taken aim at Belle Silva. Jamie Carragher was also left disgruntled. He claimed that her comments were not helping the veteran defender’s cause at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “In terms of family members speaking, I think back to when I was a player. Whether it be your wife, your father, your brother… whoever it may be should not be going public about a manager. Sometimes an agent comes out and speaks about a player. That is not right and it has to stop. It’s not the first time it’s happened. It’s put him in an awkward position.”

Silva, 39, is currently in his fourth season with Chelsea since moving from Paris Saint-Germain. Since then, he has remained a key player under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and now Pochettino.

He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this term and has scored on three occasions. Silva came off having played just over an hour of Monday’s victory against Crystal Palace.
