ALEXEI NAVALNY died in February 2024, according to the Kremlin, leaving behind his wife and two children.

The alleged death of the activist and political prisoner, who was a vocal critic of Russian president Vladimir Putin, came just months after his daughter Daria vowed to never "stop fighting" for him.

Who is Alexei Navalny's daughter Daria?

Daria Navalnaya, also known as Dasha, is the daughter of Alexei Navalny and Yulia Navalnaya.

She was born in 2001 and was followed by her brother Zakhar in 2008.

I spoke to my parents and learned that even if the police don't like us, dad is doing the right thing...I have always been proud of that.

Daria began studying psychology at Stanford University, California, in 2019.

In 2021, she accepted the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize on behalf of her father.

The award is the European Union's most prestigious human rights accolade.

Daria has become a social media influencer and, like her father, an activist.

She has taken part in a number of interviews where she has discussed her hopes for Russia's future and has also been published in various outlets, such as The New York Times.

What has Daria Navalnaya said about her father?

Daria has spoken several times about her dad and his campaigns against official corruption in Russia.

In 2023, Daria took part in a CNN interview about her father and the Russian war on Ukraine.

Speaking to journalist Erin Burnett, she said she would "not stop fighting" until Putin had ended the war and released her father and other political prisoners in the country.

Alexei, who had several stints locked up as a result of his opposition to the Kremlin, was sentenced to 19 years in prison in August 2023.

He was found guilty of creating an extremist community and financing extremist activists, among other crimes.

The sentence came on top of the 11-and-a-half years he was already serving for fraud - and other charges - which he denied.

In the extensive CNN interview, Daria also gave an insight into what it was like growing up being watched by the Russian government.

She revealed how she and her brother would make a game out of trying to evade spies while travelling on public transport.

Daria said: "We would look around the train and then start chatting with the guy who had the worst camouflage outfit and the black cap and the weird strappy bag on the side, and we would jump out – not out of the train but out of the subway car."

In a 2021 interview with Spiegel, Daria revealed that - up until the age of 10 - her childhood had actually been "normal".

It was only after her dad was taken into custody in 2011 that things began to change.

Alexei was arrested on December 5, 2011, and was sentenced to 15 days in prison "for defying a government official".

He later went on to run for mayor of Moscow in 2013 and had planned to run in Russia's 2018 presidential election but was barred by Russia's Central Electoral Commission.

He was accused of a number of crimes by Russia throughout his years as an activist, including embezzlement and contempt of court.

Speaking about her father's various arrests, Daria explained: "I spoke to my parents and learned that even if the police don't like us, dad is doing the right thing.

"I have always been proud of that, even with the fears for his life and ours. He wants the best for his country.

"He wants my younger brother and me to have a good future in this country."

In the same interview, Daria revealed how she shares many similarities with her father.

She said: "I have always taken after my father. I talk like him and move like him.

"Mum often reprimanded me for this. She didn’t want me to adopt his manners. I should be more feminine, she said."

Where is Daria Navalnaya now?

According to her Instagram, Daria appears to still be a student at Stanford University.

She describes herself as a blogger in her bio for the social media site, where she also proudly declares herself as the daughter of Alexei.

Daria's Instagram page, which has over 195k followers as of February 2024, features clips from various media interviews she has participated in.

She also regularly posts pictures of herself with her mother and brother.

At the time of writing, Daria had not commented on the alleged death of her father.

Her mother, however, insisted Putin will be "held accountable" if her husband is confirmed dead.

She said: "I don't know whether to believe or not this terrible news that we only receive from Russian government sources.

“For many years we cannot trust Putin and the Putin government. They always lie.

"But if this is true, I want Putin and everyone around him to know that they will be held accountable for everything they did to our country, to my family. And this day will happen very soon."
