There are all different beauty crazes that come and go over the years, and it seems as if people will go to all sorts of extremes in the name of beauty.
Cue Claudia Winkleman revealing she once used gravy granules to give herself a tan. But now, people have been reaching for something a little more...natural for giving themselves a youthful look. There are hundreds of anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle and youthful creams on the market.
And while they're popular, many people will also go down the aesthetic route and opt for some injections such as Botox to banish wrinkle lines. But a new craze has seen people ditching the Botox and opting for salmon sperm instead.
As things are starting to get a little fishy, beauty fans who have opted for the "natural" way to banish wrinkles hail the effects of the salmons secretion, with experts even calling it a "beautiful" treatment. Even Jennifer Aniston has dabbled in the latest anti-ageing trend, which has been tipped to become a top beauty trend for 2024.
People are injecting the sperm into their faces through a thin needle to stimulate collagen, and unlike Botox which contains a toxin to relax the muscles, this alternative is derived from the salmon's DNA, so it's a much more natural option. Speaking about the latest beauty treatment on This Morning, tweakment expert Nadine Baggott explained: "So I mean, this is not really salmon sperm, it's derived from it.

"So we have purified salmon DNA, so it's a section on the salmon sperm that has been purified and we inject it into the skin around the eyes to stimulate collagen in the area to get new blood and nutrients to the area, and also to neutralise free radicals. So it's a really, really beautiful treatment. It's a hot one at the moment.
"What's interesting about it, is there's a little bit of a weariness at fillers and pillow faces, so what we're looking for in the beauty industry is an alternative and natural version," and for those who may be scared of needles, Nadine reassured: "Also, can I just say that if you are worried about needles… it is the tiniest needle… it's about the same size as a Botox needle."
The unusual beauty treatment has been popular in Korea for a number of years, but it's slowly made it's way over to the UK. It is said to stimilate collagen and make the skin firm. The Metro reported: "This is likely to come down to the fact salmon DNA is similar to human DNA and it's this compatibility that encourages cellular remodelling – stimulating collagen production and slowing down the ageing process."
Nadine further added: "What you're doing is you're encouraging the skin to repair itself. And a lot of people, that's what they want to do. They want to feel like they're having a treatment but, it's as natural as possible."
The sperm is a by-product of salmon we can buy in the supermarket, so instead of letting the holy grail product go to waste in the bin, aesthetic practitioners are injecting it into the skin - but at around £275 a pop, it's not cheap, and it's recommended people should have multiple injections a year to keep up with the maintenance.
