Who is Fiona Bruce and when did she marry Nigel Sharrocks?

Fiona Bruce is a journalist, newsreader and television presenter.

She was born in Singapore on April 25, 1964 to her English mother Rosemary and Scottish father John.

Fiona, who has two older brothers, went to school in both the UK and in Italy.

The star speaks fluent French and Italian and studied both languages at Oxford University.

She also attended the University of London Institute in Paris.

Fiona worked at a management consulting firm after graduating but did not enjoy the experience.

She once told the BBC of her brief corporate career: "I dreaded the meetings, the tedium, the fact that I was in the wrong job.

"I was so unhappy - I used to cry in the loos at lunchtime."

Bruce then spent some time at a number of advertising agencies but was later introduced to TV editor Tim Gardam at a wedding, which led to a huge change in career.

After her chance meeting with Gardam, Fiona got her first job in broadcasting and began working as a researcher on the BBC current affairs programme Panorama.

She then became a presenter on BBC Breakfast, and is now one of the broadcaster's top stars.

Over the years she has hosted shows BBC News at Six, Crimewatch, Real Story and Antiques Roadshow for the corporation.

She also made history in 1999 as the first female newsreader on the BBC News at Ten.

Fiona has been married to her husband Nigel Sharrocks since 1994.

The pair first met when they were both working at an advertising agency and held their wedding in London.

They now share two children and split their time between London and Oxfordshire.

Meet Fiona Bruce's daughter Mia Sharrock

Mia Sharrock is the daughter of Fiona Bruce and Nigel Sharrock.

She was born in November 2001.

According to her LinkedIn, Mia has worked for production company Ginger Owl Productions in the past.

The company's website states that they "are a full-service live events production company".

They specialise in artist liaison management, event management and production management.

As of January 2024 Mia is still at university studying economics, so only time will tell what kind of career she will pursue in the future.

For now, her mother's work in the media certainly appears to have inspired her job choices so far.

Meet Fiona Bruce's son Sam Sharrock

Sam Sharrock is the son of Fiona Bruce and Nigel Sharrock who was born in January 1998.

He appears to have taken inspiration from his mother for his own career as he works as an assistant producer for the BBC.

Prior to his producer role, Sam worked as a researcher for the broadcaster.

He is also a skilled director and photographer and, according to his website, has worked in "scripted drama and factual TV, as well as corporate and event videography and photography."

Fiona has previously spoken about having a nanny for 20 years as she raised her children while carving out her career at the BBC.

Speaking about her former nanny in 2021, Bruce told Good Housekeeping: "She left when Mia finished her GCSEs, but she's a firm family friend.

"Did I spend enough time with my children?

"I think scratch the surface of any working woman and she will always think, 'Probably not.'

"I don't think there's such a thing as quality time with your children, I think it's quantity."

She added: "But there's never been any question that they take precedence over everything in my life, and always have done."
