GOOGLE has finally solved a key feature that's been missing from its Maps app forever.

Despite being one of the most popular navigation platforms around, users have long been left in the dark when they go into tunnels.

But no more.

Android owners have uncovered a brand new button that will keep showing directions as you drive inside a tunnel.

It works using Bluetooth beacons to track your location when there's no GPS signals.

Waze, which Google owns, has long allowed navigation to continue using Bluetooth.

The firm says that it uses battery-powered devices that generate Bluetooth signals to provide location data.

This allows the app to provide real-time traffic data as it would with a typical GPS connection.

However, the tunnel will have to have Bluetooth beacons installed for it to work.

Wave has partnerships to use them in some cities such as New York City, Chicago and Paris.

But as The Verge reports, it's not clear whether Google Maps will use the same ones.

How to allow Bluetooth beacon on Google Maps

At the moment, Bluetooth beacon support is only available on Android.

To switch it on, open Google Maps and tap your profile photo in the rop right corner.

Select Settings, then Navigation Settings.

Scroll to the bottom and look for Bluetooth tunnel beacons.
