Robbie Savage believes that Manchester City and Liverpool will be the last two teams standing in the Premier League title race.

The Mirror columnist believes the experience of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp will prove vital in sustaining a challenge this term amid competition from the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham. The Gunners finished just five points shy of the current world champions in 2022-23 but City have won five of the last six titles with Liverpool the only team to leave a blemish on their record.

The Reds currently sit top of the table, two points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa, and five ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham. Savage believes injuries will hold Spurs back despite Ange Postecoglou's belief his side are in the race.

Savage told Football Digest : "I think only two teams can win the Premier League this season - Man City, Liverpool. I think Spurs with their injuries, [Micky] van de Ven being back was a huge plus, but when you're missing the quality of players they are at this moment in time I think it will be too late by the time they get them all back as a collective.

"I don't think Spurs can win it. I think the reason why I say Liverpool and City, is because both of those managers have been the distance in the Premier League. I think it's a two-horse race."

Savage cast doubt over Arsenal's title aspiration ahead of the season and predicted the Gunners to finish third with Man City to take Premier League honours.

He said in August : " Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz are fantastic additions to the squad, and the Gunners over-achieved massively by leading the title race for 248 days last season. But they couldn't quite sustain it, and their best chance of being champions again may have gone."

Liverpool's success so far this term has managed to persuade the former Leicester and Birmingham ace of their merits. Heading into the season, Savage held concerns about the club's midfield renovation and predicted them to finish fifth in a repeat of 2022-23.

"To lose Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho in one window is a lot of experience leaving the building," he explained at the time. "I'm excited by Jurgen Klopp's refit in midfield, but it may need time to gel."
