YOU could argue that Casemiro was fortunate not to have been shown a second yellow card.

Having been cautioned moments earlier, he fouled Luton’s Ross Barkley.

But not every foul is a yellow card and maybe that was his last chance.

Erik ten Hag subbed him at half-time before he was sent off, because his next foul would have resulted in a red card.

You’re looking at four or five careless fouls before you get a caution for persistently infringing the laws of the game.

Ten Hag revealed in his post-match interview that he subbed Casemiro due to what he believes is unfair treatment from referees.

He said: "Even when he is not touching opponents he gets booked.

"Often the first moment of the game.

"I think it’s crazy and it was so unfair that first booking.

"That second could have been so that’s why I took him off.

"He touches an opponent and he gets booked."

Former Real Madrid man Casemiro has seemingly turned around his poor season form with a string of impressive displays in recent weeks.

Ten Hag said of the Brazilian: "You can see now he is back in the team he gives so much calmness and organisation.

"I am very happy that since he is back the team has lifted the levels."
