By meeting victims and those working to ease appalling suffering caused by the Gaza conflict, the Prince of Wales hopes to bring people together.

The officially-sanctioned, and very welcome, Royal initiative is much-needed. It comes six years after the then Duke of Cambridge said healing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be his “lifelong project”. William is seeking to stem the rise of hatred and anti-Semitism in Britain and support international relief efforts to save civilians being treated as collateral damage in Gaza.

MPs will tomorrow decide either to call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza or reject the proposal for a multitude of conflicting justifications. For Rishi Sunak and particularly Keir Starmer the pressure to vote for a ceasefire is mounting, both to free hostages and save more innocents from dying.

So 2nd class

The declining, dire state of Britain’s once first class postal services is a disgrace. Privatised Royal Mail must not be allowed to delay delivery of billions of items, including hospital appointments and court papers.

As far as the Post Office is concerned, we deserve to read all official documents then watch the Business Secretary, Kemi Badenoch, and former Post Office chief Henry Staunton grilled side-by-side in Parliament. The aim is to find out who is telling the truth about delays in payments for wrongly persecuted sub-postmasters and mistresses.

Making Royal Mail and the Post Office key services we can be proud will be hard. But If Labour takes power it must deliver real change.

A ride laugh

The late Queen Elizabeth always smiled at the races even when her nags lost. Now TV presenter Clare Balding has revealed that she enjoys the “naughtiness” of jockeys riding with bums in the air. Perhaps this was another reason why the Queen found racing far from dull.
