A sci-fi movie, filming on the project was completed in 2021 but an official release since has never materialised.

Now it has been confirmed that the movie has been canned for good and will not see the light of day.

According to Variety, a series of delays in the post-production stage have prevented the film from making it to cinema screens.

Another insider also told The Hollywood Reporter that a significant amount of re-shoots were required which forced the streamer to cancel the project.

It was also believed to have been down to the fact the child actors in the film had significantly grown up in the years since filming and as such would not be able to re-shoot.

Oscar winner Halle has yet to publicly comment on the axing.

When it was first announced in 2021, Netflix revealed that Halle would be playing the lead role of Sara Morse "one year since her husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm".

A synopsis further read: "When she discovers a strange, extra-terrestrial object underneath their home, Sara and her kids embark on a race to find their husband, father and most importantly - the truth."

It was part of a multi-picture deal that Halle had signed with the streaming giant.

The film was expected to co-star Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, John Ortiz and Sydney Lemmon.

The Mothership is the latest Hollywood blockbuster to be axed despite being completed.

$90 million movie Batgirl was axed by Warner Bros. despite being ready to go.
