What has Meek Mill said about his upbringing?
Mill comes from humble beginnings living with his mom and older sister in South Philadephia, Pennsylvania.
His dad was killed during an attempted robbery when he was just five years old, and his mom worked odd jobs to care for him and his sister, he said in a 2015 op-ed for Time.
“We had nothing growing up,” he said. “So, my mom worked any job she could find to provide for me and my sister. I love her so much for that.”
His mother has been his biggest advocate and showed that in her support of her son when he was arrested in 2017.
The arrest sparked outrage as Mill was sentenced to two to four years after failing a drug test, failing to comply with a court order restricting his travel, and other unrelated arrests.
