A United Airlines flight from the UK to Newark Airport was diverted after "life-threatening behaviour from unruly passenger," it is being reported.
The flight, UA883, departed from London Heathrow at 08:18 am local time, beginning its journey across the Atlantic, but it was disrupted when the crew encountered unruly behaviour from one of the passengers.
In response to the disturbance, the flight crew initiated a rapid descent and issued a 7700 squawk code, signalling to air traffic control that the situation onboard had become critical.
This led controllers to prepare for the changed course and coordinate with emergency services on the ground to land in Bangor, Maine. Upon landing in Bangor, the aircraft was met by local law enforcement as a precautionary measure.
Specific details regarding the incident and the nature of the passenger's behaviour have not yet been disclosed.
