'Harry wants to lay bare royal hypocrisy and show people he is not the problem'

The hypocrisy is so very establishment.

Pillory Prince Harry via briefings, leaks and by influencing public opinion - then bleat about his behaviour when he gets down and dirty and plays them at their own game.

The latest revelations in his new book Spare, about being attacked by his brother William, are not pretty. But then Harry doesn’t intend them to be.

His clear intention is to tear down the illusion that he is the problem rather than sexually problematic Andrew or William whose description of Harry’s wife as “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive” spoke to yet another familiar, offensive narrative towards Meghan and other women of colour.

Harry is in pain. It is all spilling out and he needs to heal. The depth of his candour and the subjects he remains unafraid to touch tell you everything in that regard.

It isn’t that people, having watched the Netflix documentary charting his grief as a child, his lack of privacy deep into adulthood and his resulting frustrations cannot see it. It is that many don’t want to.

Those same people preach about bullying, mental health and the need for men in particular to speak out when they have zero time for the need to understand where Harry is coming from.

The Netflix documentary lays bare the millions of column inches and broadcast hours - across a range of outlets -devoted to demolishing his standing and legitimising disinformation coming out of Buckingham Palace. Also, crucially, the palace’s damning silence as lines are crossed on race.

Tellingly, the palace has still yet to respond to the claim that they’d launched a smear campaign against Harry and Meghan, instead clinging to their flimsy ‘never complain, never explain’ mantra.

Harry’s decision to advocate for himself and not simply take it lying down has had his critics foaming at the mouth and continuing to punch down.

Why can’t we just hammer you without you answering back? They say.

Why do you have to expose the schisms, the alleged bullying and the racist behaviour behind the scenes? Why can’t you just accept your wife being pulled apart and the stick you’ve had for loving her?

Why would he? Why should he?

All families fight, the Royals are no different. This could yet get worse for them before it gets better.

But Harry continues to have widespread support from the younger generation as he takes a wrecking ball to the secrets and lies propping up The Firm.
