Michael McIntyre has spoken out about his shock phobia after checking into a £4,000-a-week weight loss clinic.
The comedian, 47, who has been forced to cancel a second gig as he undergoes a medical procedure, travelled to Austria to lose more than two stone, but ended up with a phobia of apples after he was warned not to eat them. He now claims he is scared to consume the fruit, which he was told would make him "lethargic" and "confused".
Speaking about the ordeal at the Mayr Clinic, which is famed for its no-nonsense approach to weight loss, the Big Show star said: "It was a week of pain and they did all these tests on me, put little probes on the end of my tongue and told me I shouldn’t eat apples. Apparently apples will make me very lethargic and confused in my brain. It’s the only thing I’ve taken from it, really."

The comedian checked into a clinic in a bid to lose two stone in weight (PA)Michael added in an interview with The Sun that he's now put the weight he lost back on and has also developed a "fear of apples". Joking about his wife, Kitty, he continued: "She wants teddy bear Michael, not racing snake Michael, the man she first met. She was like, 'Who is this? Who is this insanely hot, chiselled man in front of me?' She didn’t like it. So that was quite demotivating."
Michael's admission comes amid the news he has been forced to cancel a second comedy gig as he undergoes a medical procedure. The comedian announced on Sunday that his Southampton show at the Mayflower Theatre would not go ahead on Monday. On Twitter, formerly X, his account wrote: “We regret to inform customers that Michael McIntyre will be unable to perform on Monday 4 March at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

“Unfortunately, Michael has had an operation to remove kidney stones. The show will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly. Tickets will remain valid for the new date. If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The update comes just three days after the comic was forced to pull out of another UK date - presumably due to his medical situation. A post shared on Thursday declared: “Due to illness Michael is sadly unable to perform tonight's show (Thu 29 Feb) at Plymouth Pavilions. The show will be rescheduled to a later date to be announced soon. If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”
