GABRIEL MARTINELLI was forced off for Arsenal with a worrying looking injury during their clash against Sheffield United.

The Brazilian forward had starred in the game as he contributed a goal and an assist to Arsenal's storming 6-0 win.

Martinelli, 22, was helped off the pitch after sustaining an injury.

He appeared unable to put any weight on his right foot and looked to be wincing in pain as he went straight down the tunnel.

Gabriel Jesus was sent on by Arteta as concern over his compatriot raised.

Arsenal fans were left seething on social media as they slammed Arteta for not taking him off earlier.

One fan posted: "Why wasn't Trossard on for Martinelli at half-time? Now Martinelli is injured."

A second commented: "Martinelli limping. It’s over for me."

A third wrote: "Why is Arteta behaving like a novice 6-0 and you still have your best players playing now Martinelli injured this what the same thing that happened when Saliba got injured and ruined everything."

A fourth said: "Sad to see Martinelli injured ???? We hope he recovers swiftly."

A fifth added: "Arteta really was 6-0 up and then only subbed off Martinelli when he was injured."

A sixth declared: "Martinelli's injury just ruined everything."

Speaking after the game, Arteta gave his initial assessment, saying: "It's just a cut. He had a slight cut. We have to see how it is."

Bukayo Saka was also taken off at half-time, with Arteta revealing the England ace was "feeling sick."#

Arsenal were 6-0 up at Bramall Lane after a storming performance when Martinelli went off.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring in the 5th minute before an own goal from Jayden Bogle made it 2-0 inside 13 minutes.

Martinelli netted two minutes later before Kai Havertz scored the Gunners' fourth in the 25th minute.

Declan Rice made it five in the 39th minute and Ben White got in on the act in the second half as he scored Arsenal's sixth of the night.

Many Sheffield United fans had seen enough after just 15 minutes as they were spotted streaming out of the ground.
