Jamie Carragher didn't hold back as he branded Sheffield United "a disgrace" after their appalling first-half display against Arsenal on Monday night.

Chris Wilder's side are in the middle of a relegation battle, but on the back of 5-0 home losses to both Aston Villa and Brighton in their last two games at Bramall Lane, they conceded five in the opening 45 minutes as they were mauled by the Gunners.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring after five minutes, Jayden Bogle put through his own net on 13 minutes and Gabriel Martinelli made it 3-0 just two minutes later. On the half hour mark, Kai Havertz smashed home a fourth, and Declan Rice added another before the break.

Many Blades supporters had left the stadium before then and Carragher let rip at the interval.

“That was a disgrace that," he said in the Sky Sports studio. "It's one of the most one sided games I've ever seen.

"And to consider you come in on the back of losing two home games 5-0, that's shocking. I can't think of anything worse that I've ever seen in a half of football than that."

Ben White made it 6-0 to the Gunners in the second half, with the title contenders then easing off with the job they headed north to do emphatically done.

Alan Smith, speaking on co-commentary for Sky, said: "There was a time not so long ago you'd come to Bramall Lane and Arsenal would get bullied - they aren't anymore!"

Thierry Henry however had a word of warning for the Gunners: "The way Arsenal are playing at the moment it is outstanding. But, if you don’t have a trophy with you at the end I cannot celebrate it."

The Gunners can go top of the table with a win over Brentford on Saturday, having closed the gap on league leaders Liverpool to two points, with champions Manchester City one point ahead. Liverpool face City at Anfield on Sunday.
