The victim had spent 20 years in prison as he had been wrongfully convicted of rape in murder following the 1996 death of 18-year-old Angie Dodge.
He had been released in 2017 and was exonerated in 2019.

Tapp and Rodimer were present at a Resorts World hotel on the Las Vegas strip.
He was originally thought to have died by an accidental overdose and fall, as cocaine was found in his system, however, the coroner later ruled it a homicide.
Rodimer was accused of attacking Tapp after he supposedly offered the ex-WWE star’s stepdaughter cocaine at a hotel room Halloween party.
Investigators shared texts between Rodimer and his wife Sarah, according to court an arrest warrant obtained by CBA affiliate KLAS.
“I watched you nearly murder somebody and I had to take your [expletive] hands off from his neck as he laid [sic] there and you ran away and I spent the next two hours trying to take care of him. Nobody should have to watch their husband murder somebody,” she texted her husband.
“I watched you murder somebody like let that sink in your psychopath,” she said in another text after the alleged incident.
Rodimer and Tapp reportedly knew one another through the classic car and racing circuit, a family attorney told KLAS.
Police however have not revealed the relationship between Tapp and the ex-WWE star.
Rodimer's lawyers released a statement that insisted he was "vigorously contesting the allegations," on Wednesday night, The U.S. Sun previously reported.

“He intends on vigorously contesting the allegations and asks that the presumption of innocence guaranteed all Americans be respected.”
Documents also revealed that some witnesses had told police what they believed they saw and heard that night.
One person said they heard Rodimer say, “If you ever talk to my daughter again, I’ll [expletive] kill you,” documents said.
“Immediately after hearing Dan say this to Christopher, [the witness] heard two loud banging noises," the documents state.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported more details on Tapp's previous wrongful conviction, including how investigators exonerated him.
