Rowling said on X/Twitter that the ITV journalist was “just a man revelling in his misogynistic performance of what he thinks ‘woman’ means”.

In an interview yesterday, Willoughby said the comments equated to a “crime”.

She went on: “I’m legally a woman.

“She knows I’m a woman and she calls me a man.

“It’s a protected characteristic and that is a breach of both the Equalities Act and the Gender Recognition Act.

“I’ve been to the police, and I’ve reported it as an issue.

“I don’t know whether it’s going to be a hate crime or malicious communications, but it’s a cut-and-dried offence.”

Northumbria Police said: “On March 4, we received a complaint about a post on social media.

“We are awaiting to speak to the complainant further.”

Willoughby initially hit back at Rowling’s comments on X, telling fans she was disgusted by the “grotesque transphobia” and adding she was “every bit as much a woman as JK Rowling”.

Rowling recently hit out at media outlets after cat-killing trans murderer Scarlet Blake was described as a woman.
