RAIL workers will walk out yet again in a strike over pay and overtime next month.

The RMT union said strike action will take place across national railways for 24 hours on March 16.

The union, which represents 40,000 workers across Network Rail and 14 train operators, rejected offers from employers last week, they said.

Union bosses said employers "did not meet the needs of members on pay, job security or working conditions".

The strikes will be followed by an overtime ban by Network Rail workers, where they will refuse to work longer if required.

It will be in effect from Friday March 17 to Thursday March 23.

This overtime ban will effect maintenance and operations work.

The RMT, that stands for Rail, Maritime and Transport, are seeking an unconditional offer for better wages from rail operators and Network Rail.

The announcement comes just hours after nurses declared they will walk out in more strikes next month.

Medics at 120 NHS trusts will take part from Wednesday March 1 to Friday March 3 – up from 77 organisations in February and 44 in December.
