PRINCE Edward 'won't battle Andrew' to be the face of a royal 'B team' with Kate and King Charles stepping back from public duties, an expert claimed.

Key members of the Royal Family have been out of action after Princess Kate's planned abdominal surgery and His Majesty's cancer diagnosis.

Prince William has also taken a step back to care for his wife and three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kate, 42, has not been seen publicly since Christmas Day and is still recovering after her op in January.

A royal expert claimed the royal mum-of-three is "functioning well but not 100 per cent yet", as her children are "boosts her spirits".

At the same time, the King has been reducing his work load while he bravely undergoes cancer treatment.

The disease was found after he went into The London Clinic for a prostate corrective procedure in January.

Queen Camilla has put on a brave face leading the fort in their absence, and has carried out 13 official engagements since last month.

Queen Elizabeth used to say that what she loved about Sophie was you didn't even know she was there, and she really liked that because she just got on with things, and I think that's what they that's what they do."

Now, less senior royals have had to take centre stage given the absence of the King, Kate and William.

It comes as Prince Andrew was "grinning from ear to ear" as he lead the royals with Sarah Ferguson at a memorial service for Greece’s late King Constantine last week.

He stepped in after William and Charles had to leave, with the Prince sighting a "personal matter" and the monarch exiting early amid his treatments.

Royal experts have claimed Andrew seized the opportunity in the hope of a future 'comeback'.

Ingrid Seward said: “This will raise the question of who’s in charge at such a vital time and with so many key royals out of action.”

It is the first time the disgraced Duke of York, who was stripped of his military titles and his royal patronages, had attended a public event since the Christmas Day service at Sandringham.

Meanwhile there is speculation Prince Edward, who is the late Queen Elizabeth II’s third son and youngest child, could take on more duties with his wife Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

The couple share two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James Viscount Severn.

Prince Edward was handed the title of Duke of Edinburgh in March 2023, the first since his father Prince Phillip.

Today marks the celebration of the Prince's 60th birthday, as he seems happy to step up and help shoulder the burden of royal duties amid a slimmed-down Royal Family.

Edward has been going around the world doing a lot of things that he likes, which is with acting and seeing performances and helping people."

Angela Levin

Royal biographer Angela Levin told The Sun online: "I don't think that Edward and Sophie need to fight, because they're very welcomed and everybody likes them.

"They do their jobs quietly. They haven't wanted to be in the middle of attention, so I don't think they want to fight Andrew.

"The the difficulty is, is what on earth was Andrew doing, leading the royals and grinning from ear to ear with a very practice army march swinging his arms and and walking, you know very much as if he was back in in the navy or the army."

The royal expert also spoke of the tradition whereby "minor royals go first" and "main royals go late".

"You don't see King Charles going first," continued Mrs Levin.

"It was very, very foolish of the aids not to recognize that that would make people angry seeing Andrew go first."

'They're not jealous people'

Speaking of Edward and Sophie taking on more royal responsibilities, Mrs Levin added: "Edward has been going around the world doing a lot of things that he likes, which is with acting and seeing performances and helping people.

"I think the change came some couple of years ago, when the Queen was very ill.

"But I don't think that there's anything nasty going on, in that they don't mind King Charles being out of the way while they do things.

"I think they'd be very supportive of him, and they've been very supportive of the late Queen, and I don't think that they're a nasty couple by any means.

"I think they're not jealous people.

"I think they get on with their things quietly, and are much appreciated.

"I mean the Queen Elizabeth used to say that what she loved about Sophie was you didn't even know she was there, and she really liked that because she just got on with things, and I think that's what they that's what they do.

"But if you watch them on some of their engagements, they're roaring with laughter again. They're enjoying it, it's not a resentfulness there at all."

It comes as the pair were spotted beaming as they made an appearance at a Community Sport and Recreation Awards in Leeds on Friday.

They met with female rugby players and gave awards in honour of International Women's Day.

It follows their visit to Right Stuff Amateur Boxing Club in Staffordshire last week where the couple spoke to staff about using sport to help deter youngsters from anti-social behaviour.

Meanwhile, last month the Duchess of Edinburgh appeared at the British Cycling National Track Championships in Manchester to chat with athletes.

Their frequent public appearances were expected as Queen Camilla goes on a well-deserved 'holiday' and takes a break from public engagements.

Disgraced Duke

It comes after Andrew was previously accused of having sex with underage Virginia Giuffre on Epstein's "Paedo Island" as well as allegedly knowing about his pal's sex crimes.

The royal denied all wrongdoing and the case was settled without any of the allegations being tested in court as Andrew settled the lawsuit in February 2022.

It's been more than four years since he stepped down from royal duties.

But the unsealing of court papers in the US which allege that Andrew took part in an underage orgy and appeared in sex tapes sparked controversy again.

He denies the allegations.

Charles is said to have wanted to keep a distance from the disgraced Duke since the bombshell allegations.

Who are Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie, Countess of Wessex

Prince Edward is the last born of the Queen and Prince Phillip, born on March 10, 1964

He is the younger brother to King Charles, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.

The Duke was born at Buckingham Palace and studied at Heatherdown School and Gordonstoun before spending time in New Zealand during his gap year.

He attended the University of Cambridge, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.

Since 2002, he has taken on full-time duties as a working member of the Royal Family and holds patronages within more than 70 charities and organisations.

His wife, the Countess of Wessex was born Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones on January 20, 1965, in Oxford to parents Christopher Bournes Rhys-Jones and Mary.

She was raised in Brenchley, and began her education at Dulwich Preparatory School, before moving on to Kent College, in Pembury.

The Duchess of Edinburg later began a career in public relations and launched her public relations agency, RJH Public Relations, in 1996 which she ran with her business partner, Murray Harkin, for five years.

Sophie first met Prince Edward while she was working at Capital Radio for the in 1987 but he was dating her pal at the time.

But sparks flew when they crossed paths again at a charity event in 1993.

Their engagement was announced on January 6, 1999 and they tied the knot in June the same year at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
