After an incredible 40-year career, Jayne Torvill, 66, and Christopher Dean, 65, have announced they will be hanging up their skates for good.

This caused intense speculation from fans that the pair might also retire from judging Dancing On Ice.

In a recent TV appearance on The One Show, the duo broke their silence as they made their position on the future very clear.

"There's some speculation, it's the Dancing On Ice semi-final this weekend. Please tell me you are returning for the next series?!"

To which, Jane Torvill confirmed that the pair are definitely going to return for the upcoming series.

She exclaimed: "Oh, absolutely!", before Christopher Dean made it clear that their position on the judging panel is permanent.

He confirmed: "We will. The names are engraved on the chairs now. They can't take us away!"

Despite their future on the ITV show being firmly cemented, the pair are still emotional about the idea of retiring from the ice.

Their last show is set to take place on May 11 in Glasgow as part of the Torvill & Dean: Our Last Dance tour.

Dean confesseed: "I think the last show will be the lump in the throat."

As Jane interjected: " I think for everybody, whichever skaters are with us on the ice, they'll be emotional too because it's always like that at the end of a tour, but this will be a special once for us."
