PAY attention to the power light on your PlayStation console – it reveals exactly what's going on with the console.

There are at least seven different "light codes" that use a mixture of colours and hues to tell you what's what.

The light strips – also know as the power indicator – are the LEDs that illuminate the exterior of your PS5.

Here's what each light code means, according to Sony.

PS5 LIGHT – SOLID WHITE

This simply means that your PlayStation console is powered on.

If you're not seeing a picture, it means something is going wrong.

For instance, you might be on the wrong TV channel or your HDMI cable connection is loose.

PS5 LIGHT – BLUE TRANSITIONING TO WHITE

This means that your PS5 is powering on.

If your console was totally powered off then it might take a little longer versus launching from Rest Mode.

PS5 LIGHT – BLINKING WHITE, SOLID BLUE, OR BLINKING BLUE

This usually means that the console is frozen.

If that's the case, Sony recommends unplugging the console for 60 seconds then plugging it back in.

You can then try turning it back on to see if it works.

If not, you may need to follow steps to rebooting the console in Safe Mode.

PS5 LIGHT – BLINKING WHITE THEN OFF

If you see this, it means that the console is being powered off.

This means it's fully switching off (and not going into Rest Mode), so the PS5 won't charge your DualSense.

If it's fully turned off, your PS5 also won't download software updates in the background.

PS5 LIGHT – SOLID ORANGE

Solid Orange signals that your PS5 is in Rest Mode.

Sony explains: "Rest Mode is a low-power state in which your console can charge controllers, download and install content.

"To turn the console on from rest mode, hold down the PS button on a USB-connected or previously-paired controller."

PS5 LIGHT – BLINKING ORANGE

Blinking Orange means that your console is moving in to Rest Mode.

That's as opposed to the blinking white light that means your console is switching off.

After a few seconds of blinking, you should a solid orange light that signals your PS5 is in Rest Mode.

PS5 LIGHT – NO COLOUR

If there's no colour then your PS5 console is totally switched off.

It means you don't have Rest Mode active either, so your PS5 won't charge controllers or download content.
