While the British weather is doing its best to convince us otherwise, spring is here - and if you're looking for some staycation inspiration for the warmer days, there's one pretty UK seaside spot you may want to have on your radar.

Burnham-on-Sea has been hailed as a 'classic' British seaside town thanks to its picturesque Victorian pier, plethora of fish and chips shops, ice cream parlours and sandy shores.

In fact, it sits on a seven-mile-long stretch of beach, which happens to be one of Europe's longest sandy beaches! The section in Burnham-on-Sea has plenty of space for sun-seekers too, as it's divided into three beaches; Main Beach, South Beach, North Beach.

The main beach is where you'll find - as the name suggests - the bulk of the action. For example you can hire sunloungers, while lifeguards patrol the beach during peak seasons, and the Victorian pier is just a few steps away.

Unfortunately you won't be able to bring your pooch along as dogs are banned year-round. There are facilities for visitors including parking, a supermarket and public toilets and showers. The shallow waters are ideal for paddling, although the beach's strong currents mean that the sea isn't particularly safe to swim in - hence the lifeguards - but you can still enjoy the large stretch of sand and dip your toes in the water when you want to cool off.

As for the charming pier, it's the shortest in Britain but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of fun to be had. In fact, the pier is home to a wide array of arcade games, as well as various food and drink stands.

Meanwhile the South Beach sits near the jetty and is made up of pebbles and mud rather than sand, so it's one for a scenic stroll if you want to watch boats coming in and out. As for the North Beach? It's a mix of sand and mud, and is home to the town's picturesque lighthouse, not to mention there are plenty of pubs in the area. If you want to bring your dog, you'll need to avoid May to September when pets are banned.

It's not just the beaches that make Burnham-on-Sea worth a visit. The town is packed with charming pubs, shops and also boasts a theatre and cinema for those days when the British weather just won't play along. When the weather is sunny but you fancy a break from the beach, the town's 42-acre Apex Park is an ideal spot for a stroll or even a picnic.

It's also home to the Brean theme park with over 40 rides and attractions such as mini golf for the whole family to enjoy - and during the warmer months there's also a great waterpark on offer. (You can find out more on brean.com).
