Jimmy Kimmel was on hand to host the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday and made sure to take aim at the celebrities in the room at the Dolby Theatre.
The comedian marked his fourth time as host for the prestigious event by mocking some of the biggest names in the audience. Among those was Robert De Niro, whose large age gap with girlfriend . Tiffany Chen was quick to be called out. Kimmel joked that the first time De Niro played in a role alongside Jodie Foster in 1976's film, Taxi Driver he was old enough to be her dad. Now, Kimmel jibed, she is now 20 years too old to be his girlfriend, taking aim at the 35 year difference between De Niro and Chen.
However, Jimmy's efforts weren't well received by many of the viewers at home.

Another agreed, adding: "Terrible jokes about Christopher Nolan & Robert Downey Jr by Jimmy Kimmel. Yikes #Oscars." And a third said: "@jimmykimmel started with a terrible opening. It’s going to be a long night! #Oscars.
Away from the jibes, Kimmel praised all those who stood by the actors in the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes and promised to stand by them in their own strike battles. The audience was quick to rise to their feet in appreciation before Kimmel got back into a joking mood once more by telling them he's desperate to make the show drag on so they can claim overtime.
