Leading stars Marisa Abela and Jack O'Connell looked dapper as they posed up a storm on the red carpet for the upcoming movie about Amy Winehouse, Back to Black.

The movie has divided fans and friends since it was announced. It drew a lot of criticism from friends of the iconic singer, who have trashed the production for 'ghoulish' depictions of the star's drug addiction. They were also angered as footage of her funeral will be used following her death 13 years ago. Amy is portrayed by Marisa, who is portraying her early life as well as her rise to fame.

Marisa kept it simple in a form-fitting off-the-shoulder black gown. Her hair was straightened and flowed down her shoulder. She also made sure to pose with her co-star Jack, who rocked a white shirt and a black overcoat.

TV presenter and radio star Clara looked office chic in a grey and white striped dress and matching blazer. She completed the look with bright red platform heels. Eddie Marsan, who plays Amy's dad, Mitch, was back in black in an all-velvet look as he smiled at the cameras on the red carpet.

The director of the movie, Sam Taylor-Johnson, looked glamorous as she arrived on the red carpet with her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson - who looked proud of her achievements. The duo looked loved-up as they posed for cameras. The late singer Amy's father was among the many guests at the premiere on Monday.

Mitch looked relaxed as he rocked a classic white button-up shirt and black suit. He completed the look with a matching black tie. Game of Thrones star Jack O'Connell portrays her former husband Blake Fielder-Civil. When many critics claimed it was 'too soon' to create a movie about the global star, Jack, 33, jumped to producers' defence and questioned what an 'acceptable timescale' would be.

The actor said everyone involved in the movie was determined to do Amy and her memory justice. While the premiere takes place tonight, the movie is released on April 12.

"Put it like this, if we were trying to portray her in any form of negative light, then that might be a valid point and I can understand one or two people pre-empting that," he told The Sunday Times. "But if you talk to Sam [Taylor-Johnson, director] we're not even calling this a biopic, it's a celebration."

Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse, approved the film crew to shoot scenes of her drug overdose at her former residence, which is now owned by him. He faced backlash from many of her friends, with one person saying to The Mail on Sunday: "The fact that Amy's father has said OK to film a scene where she had an overdose in the flat she lived in is disgusting. It was such a personal thing and it's so upsetting and not needed.

"It's like the film is reliving all the darkest moments in her life when there were so many more amazing moments. Amy would really hate that they're focusing on all the dark stuff that she went through."

The biopic of the star will also have footage of Amy's funeral following her death from alcohol poisoning in 2011. Musician Neon Hitch has also slammed the "tasteless" film, adding: "I feel very strange. Can you please all let Amy rest?"
