Creepy images reveal an abandoned mansion that is thought to have once been an IRA headquarters.
Pictures show the house, which lay discarded for at least 15 years, in a state of disrepair and covered in rubble with statues around the home, a broken painting and car outside that has been taken over by nature. In addition, there were walkie talkies and a camera on a table which might have been utilised for surveillance.
These images were taken by 23-year-old urban explorer Owen Mcnutt from Strabane, Ireland, he captured the mansion at an otherwise secret location in the Northwest of Northern Ireland. The venue is well-known in the urbex community for being a rumoured IRA mansion which could have been utilised as a terrorist safe house or a base for organising criminal activity.
What appears to be a farmhouse is in fact hiding an enormous dwelling which is much larger than many of the homes across Northern Ireland. The Provisional Irish Republican Army is officially called the Irish Republican Army and informally called the Provos.
It was an Irish republican paramilitary force that tried to end British rule in Northern Ireland, helped Irish reunification and to bring about an independent republic encompassing all the island of Ireland. Owen said: “The property isn’t too far from me, so I had drove past it once and added it to my list of places to explore.
Life on one of the UK's cheapest streets where homes sell for just £25,000“The house has a lot of speculation surrounding it, there are a few missing windows as entry points. It was late at night when I was filming the house for TikTok, so the atmosphere was a bit spooky.
“The house was in an advanced state of decay and terribly vandalised in some parts, from the outside it wasn’t hard to imagine how beautiful it was in its prime though. I think it’s been abandoned for around 15 years, but it may be a lot longer than that.
“I love getting shots like these because they capture unique furnishings and items that aren't often seen these days. It’s like stepping back in time to an era with so much more attention to detail and craftsmanship.
“It’s always a satisfying feeling when you get a shot or two that you really like while exploring, whether it’s video or photo shots. When the video went on TikTok I was surprised that the item to get the most attention was the old tin of celebrations sitting on the table, people couldn’t believe the size of the old tin.
“There weren’t any scary moments, apart from a few floors that didn’t look very sturdy. My favourite thing in there has to be the antique Victorian cast iron canopy bathtub with every different control and setting you could ask for.
“Or else the walkie talkies and vintage cameras that scattered the house.”
