Kate Garraway reached out to her famous friend Myleene Klass for help in celebrating her daughter Darcey's 18th birthday.
Despite Darcey's request, Good Morning Britain star Kate, 56, wanted to make the day special for her daughter following the tragic loss of her dad Derek Draper, just two months ago.
On January 5, Kate announced the sad news that her husband and father of her two children, Derek had passed away. Derek, who was 56, had been battling the effects of Covid for nearly four years, which had drastically changed his and his family's life.
Derek fell ill with the virus at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. He was hospitalised and put into an induced coma. Kate has previously spoken about how Covid had 'wreaked havoc' on Derek's body. After spending more than a year in hospital, Derek returned home to his wife and children in April 2021, but required constant care.
Unfortunately, Derek fell seriously ill again before Christmas after suffering a cardiac arrest and he passed away on January 3. Following Derek's funeral, which she attended alongside Darcey and her son Billy, 15, Kate returned to work on Good Morning Britain and Smooth Radio last month.
GMB fans furious as show is cancelled and replaced with bizarre choiceYet Kate revealed that Darcey didn't want to make too much of a fuss for her 18th birthday following the sad loss of her dad Derek. However, her mum Kate was still adamant that the family should celebrate Darcey's milestone birthday.
Kate roped in the help of Myleene, who shared a glimpse of the surprise party on her Instagram account. Myleene wrote: "How she pulled it off, I can't believe it. It looks amazing." The post showed the fun unfold as Kate and Myleene were seen setting up the birthday soirée before they presented Darcey with a magnificent pink birthday cake, drizzled with icing and topped with gold cherries.
Sharing a heartfelt message alongside a video of the fun-filled day, proud mum Kate penned: "So yesterday our little baby Darcey got officially and legally big - 18. She had said she didn't want a celebration as it was too soon after her dad passing, but maybe a small family lunch at home."
Kate went on: "I knew her dad would want the day to be marked and special though so I sent up a bat signal to @myleeneklass who rallied the most amazing gang of #warriorwomen and #warriormen."
Showing her gratitude, Kate continued: "Huge thanks for insane kindness goes to Meg @mysticalfariesparties (including the most gorgeous brownies ever), scrummy food from @mysupperhero, a cake that took Darcey's breath away @tamostreats. And the best teen Instagram backdrop ever."
