Louis Tomlinson has spoken about claims he and Harry Styles were secretly dating one another.

Since the pair met in the early stages of their X Factor journey, the former One Direction bandmates have been surrounded by claims that their close friendship turned romantic. The lads lived together after the band was formed on the former ITV talent show and were often seen out and about with one another, as well as attending an Ed Sheeran concert in Manchester.

Online forums including X, formerly known as Twitter, and Reddit are often filled with claims of "proof" that Louis, 32, and Harry, 30, had been dating one another. Their "ship" name from fans, Larry Stylinson, has also gained attraction across the globe.

In a new interview, Louis has addressed the allegations and branded it a "conspiracy theory" and added that the claims can often leave him feeling "irritated". "What I realised a few years ago is that there is nothing I can say," he said.

Speaking to Brazilian magazine, G1, the cheeky Doncaster-born musician added: "There is nothing I can do to stop those who believe in this conspiracy. They are so connected to what they believe that they will not see the truth for what it really is. I'm sure many people look and find all these little conspiracies that happen in life interesting.

"It does irritate me a little bit, you know, but it is just kind of the nature of the job, I suppose." He went on to say: "There are times when it gets very personal. I have my son, Freddie. He is the most important person in my life," commenting that the theories often relate to things which are "unfair".

Louis, who is currently gearing up for the final 22 shows on his Faith In The Future World Tour explained: "There's nothing I can do about it, nothing I say can stop people from inventing what they want to invent. So be it." Larry Stylinson has also been depicted in HBO's Euphoria, showing an animated love scene between both Louis and Harry. Following this airing, Louis took to social media to state that he had not been approached prior to the scene being created, nor did he consent to this.

Speaking previously, Louis said that the claims caused friction between him and his former close pal Harry. "It made everything, I think on both fences, a little bit more unapproachable," he told Grazia, adding: "I think it shows that it was never anything real if I can use that word."

While Louis has spoken out about being heterosexual, Harry has previously stated he sees no need to put a label on sexuality, saying everybody has their "own journey" to discovering their sexuality. "I think everyone, including myself, has your own journey with figuring out sexuality and getting more comfortable with it," he told Rolling Stone UK.

The Grammy-award-winning singer explained that comments on his rumoured romances "doesn't make him feel good". He told the same publication: "Sometimes people say, 'You've only publicly been with women'. I don't think I've publicly been with anyone, if someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn't mean you're choosing to have a public relationship or something."

In an interview with Better Homes & Gardens, he explained that it often felt as though the "only thing" that was his, was his sex life. "I felt so ashamed about it, ashamed at the idea of people even knowing that I was having sex, let alone who with," he said. He added that any speculation about his sexuality was "outdated" and that society should be more "accepting" to people being "open".
