Beautiful UK 'hidden gem' has seven waterfalls and gorgeous picnic spots

With lighter evenings and warmer temperatures, it's time to dust off your hiking boots and get ready to explore some of the UK's most beautiful spots on walking holidays.

For those in need of staycation inspiration, there's one hidden gem that is well worth having on your radar, if only because you'll get to see seven spectacular waterfalls along the way!

Tucked away in the breathtaking Peak District, one of the UK's 15 national parks, is a 5km-long walk in Derbyshire that's perfect for all abilities, and offers up some truly incredible countryside views. It's located on the western edge of the park near the village of Tintwistle, where you can also find plenty of cheap spots to spend the night. For example, Hotels.com has hotel stays from £97, while Booking.com has a mix of accommodation from £88 a night. Prefer self-catered? Vrbo can be a great source for charming cottages in the area.

A walk with seven consecutive waterfalls is always going to draw in the crowds, so the team at Derbyshire Live put the walk to the test to see if it lives up to the hype.

They started the loop near Arnfield Reservoir in Tintwistle, although warned that parking can be a challenge during busier seasons. The walk then took them up Crossgate Lane, passing a farm where you may be lucky enough to spot a peacock. From there, you turn left onto Arnfield Lane until you come across Gamekeeper Cottage.

Here, there's a gate and a footpath which you can follow for approximately 1.3km - just be warned it gradually inclines! You'll know you're on the right track when you pass through a gate between two large patches of woodland. Follow the path until you spot a man-made pile of stones, which marks a left turn down a narrow footpath.

If you miss the pile of stones, look out for the first left-hand turn into a footpath after walking through the gate between the woodland. After a few minutes on this path, you'll start to see and hear the seven waterfalls. These range from small cascades to thunderous falls.

There are plenty of opportunities for photos and tranquil spots to sit back and enjoy a sandwich. After taking in the beauty of these waterfalls, you can either retrace your steps or plan another route to explore more of the Peak District.

After all, there's heaps to see and do across the whole park with its rolling green hills, quintessentially British villages offering cosy pubs and hotels, and walking trails that cater to all levels. For those planning a family break there's endless fun to be had with the kids, not to mention fun attractions such as the Poole's Cavern with its limestone caverns and woodland walks, while the cable cars at Heights of Abraham offer up a fun, different way to enjoy the views.
