These pictures show the damage caused in a bathroom fire - which is believed to have started when an aerosol can and lighter blew up after being left in direct sunlight.

Crews were called to Imperial Way in Ashford, Kent at around 10.50am yesterday (April 10). Once the fire was extinguished it emerged that it had likely been started after flammable items became too hot. Kent Fire and Rescue Service said a lighter and an aerosol were left on a windowsill in direct sunlight and exploded. No injuries were reported.

Pictures show the extent of the damage, with a door and a windowsill visible charred. The fire service said: "This is your reminder to keep window sills clear of reflective or highly flammable items that could start a fire if placed in direct sunlight, which is what happened in Ashford.

"Crews believe either an aerosol or lighter exploded after getting too hot. So, make sure to check your home is safe and move any similar items away from windows."
