A planned strike by CrossCountry rail workers, set to occur this Saturday in the midst of a union recognition dispute, has been put on hold ahead of promising negotiations.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) were primed to stage the walkout. Indicating progress, the union disclosed that the firm has consented to discussions aimed at resolving the controversy.

In response to this development, RMT general secretary Mick Lynch noted: "With our members prepared to take strike action this weekend, CrossCountry management has seen the need to sit down with RMT to find a long-term resolution to this impasse."

"We have agreed to suspend strike action and take up this opportunity. But our strike mandate remains in place, so we will name new strike dates if that becomes necessary."

This disagreement is unrelated to the enduring wage dispute involving train drivers at 16 train operators, including CrossCountry.
