Francis Ngannou's record for the hardest punch ever recorded has been shattered by UFC champion Alex Pereira.

The promotion has a high-tech machine known as the ‘Power Cube’ at their headquarters in Las Vegas that measures the force of a strike in units. Ngannou has topped the list since 2017 for the hardest punch ever landed at 129,161 units and UFC boss Dana White famously put that number into real-life scenarios.

“His punches are equivalent to 96 horsepower. That’s equal to getting hit by a Ford Escort going as fast as it can and it’s more powerful than a 12-pound sledgehammer from full force overhead," White said. Seven years later, ex-UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou's record has been beaten by Pereira, who recorded a staggering 191,796 score on the machine.

Pereira is known for his signature left hook but broke Ngannou's record by hitting the machine with his right hand. The two-weight UFC champion is also an estimated 35kg lighter than Ngannou, who weighed in at the 265lb heavyweight limit for his world title fights in the promotion.

Pereira returns to action this Saturday at UFC 300 in Las Vegas to make the first defence of his light-heavyweight world title against former beltholder Jamahal Hill. 'Poatan' is only eight fights into his UFC career but his fight against Hill marks the sixth past or present champion he's faced in the octagon.

“I did see that he could possibly be an opponent and I was excited for it,” Hill said of his rival. “He’s the two-division GLORY champion, two-division UFC champion, kickboxing great, hands of stone, bad man, just a monster, dangerous, scary dude. He’s all those things, but watch what I do to him.”

"I'm ready to get in the cage and get my hand raised. The job is not done yet. I feel like whoever wins between us is the champion, that's how I feel about it. I have a strategy for everything, you shouldn't want to get hit with anything so I plan on dealing with everything he has."
