Ellie Goulding has reportedly written about her marriage to her estranged husband Caspar Jopling for her next album, with her having debuted a new song following their split.

It was announced in February that Ellie, 37, and Caspar, 32, had separated. The former couple confirmed the news in separate statements at the time on social media, which were shared with their respective followers on Instagram.

The singer-songwriter is now said to have been "pouring her heartache" into a new album. Ellie showcased new music at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Thursday, where she was supported by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Sun reports that Ellie "opens up about the split" on a track called Easy to Love Me, which she debuted at the event earlier this week. Caspar is said to have been in the audience and footage from the performance of the unreleased song has since been shared on social media.

She's heard singing on stage: "Every mistake that I made was the last one, yet you still fight for us. I know it's not easy to love me but I'm yours' if you want me. I know it's not easy to love me but I'm yours' so completely. I tried to soak up all the water you had to wade through just to reach me."

The Brit Award winner subsequently appears to sing on the track, based on footage from the gig: "Maybe I'm too much for you. All the questions that hurt my head. Finally found something true I might lose, but you know I'll be there."

According to the outlet, the performer suggested that she wrote the song with Jack Rochon, who is credited with having worked on Beyoncé's new album Cowboy Carter. Ellie reportedly said: "It's what I do - I write from the heart and I write what I'm feeling and think about the consequences afterwards."

It's further claimed that during the concert, she confirmed that the track had been written for her sixth studio album. Ellie is quoted as having shared: "I'm writing a new album [that I hope will be out this year]. I've been working pretty hard and it’s sounding good."

Ellie and her husband Caspar announced their separation just weeks ago on social media. There had been rumours that the pair, who are parents to son Arthur, two, together, had split up prior to the announcement in February.

Addressing the speculation, Ellie wrote in her statement at the time that she had been separated from Caspar for "some time". She said that the former couple "remain the closest of friends" and have been "co-parenting" together.

She said: "In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago. We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our sons best interest at heart. We are committed to protecting our family privacy and thank people in advance for respecting our wishes - we won’t be commenting further. Thank you."

Whilst art dealer Caspar issued his own statement on Instagram, writing at the time: "Hi people - hope you're having a good day. I feel (sadly) that I need to say something on mine and Ellie's current relationship.. that I hope more than anything will make any final tabloid speculation disappear.

"Ellie and I made the decision to separate some time ago. Our immediate family and close friends have known for some time - otherwise we chose to do what we could to keep this private. Ellie and I remain the closest of friends and, most importantly, 'co-parents' to the best kiddo in the world, Arthur. This is the last I want to say on this - and please ask that you respect mine and Ellie's privacy. Thanks a lot. Caspar."

Ellie and Caspar got married in 2019. The former couple are said to have met three years earlier at a dinner party. Guests at their wedding, which was held at York Minster four years ago, included Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
