A royal source has claimed that the late Queen would have been “devastated” by the revelations in Prince Harry's memoirs.

Spare, which is due for release on January 10, has been widely leaked after copies were accidentally put on sale in Spain.

The memoir includes a string of damaging claims about various members of the royal family, with Harry's brother Prince William squarely in the firing line.

The Duke of Sussex claims that his sibling and heir to the throne attacked him physically in a row over Meghan Markle, while William is accused of joining their father King Charles III in “looking for a fight” during a confrontation with Harry after Prince Philip's funeral.

William and Kate are accused of encouraging Harry to wear a Nazi fancy dress outfit and describes his brother as his “arch-nemesis”.

The book's release comes just four months after the late Queen's death and a source who knew Elizabeth II well said that they felt “almost comforted” that she was no longer alive to see what her grandson had done, the Daily Mail reports.

“Her Majesty would have been devastated,” they said.

Harry and Meghan resigned from royal duties to relocate to California and the Duke of Sussex also accuses his elder brother of being the aggressor during the breakdown of their relationship.

Harry describes how when he returned to the UK in 2021 for his grandfather's funeral, a clearly distressed Charles asked his feuding sons not to make his “final years a misery”.

It is unclear whether Harry will attend his father's coronation later this year and he has repeatedly dodged questions on the subject during promotional interviews.

The new book is available for pre-order here.
