Ryan Reynolds will be sipping Aviation Gin and toasting Wrexham tonight after the Welsh side secured promotion for the second successive season with a sensational 6-0 home win over Forest Green.

The result means the Red Dragons will be playing League One football next season, thanks in part to MK Dons being beaten by Mansfield on Saturday afternoon. The news will undoubtedly delight the club's co-owners of Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have overseen quite the journey in their time in the boardroom.

After 15 years out of the Football League, last season's promotion ended that wait but Wrexham are already up and out of League Two. The game that got them up was quite the performance, with Phil Parkinson's side five goals to the good just after the hour mark.

Unlike the National League, the top three sides in League Two achieve automatic promotion. In turn, the feat represents the first time Wrexham have achieved successive promotions in their 159-year history, and not since the 2004-05 season have the Red Dragons featured in the EFL’s third division.

Neither Reynolds or McElhenny were present for this contest, with the latter taking to Twitter to express his disappointment at not being at the game. The 'Always Sunny in Philadelphia' superstar admitted it was 'killing him' to miss out on the action live, instead watching the tie from Los Angeles.

As mentioned, the Red Dragons have Mansfield to thank given it was them who battered MK Dons 4-1 away from home to help secure Wrexham's status as a League One outfit next term. The club's Hollywood owners arrived in 2020 and have helped transform Wrexham's fortunes.

Once the triumph was confirmed, Wrexham's fans flooded onto the pitch - despite a stern pre-match warning from the club. A statement read: "The Club wishes to remind supporters that it is crucial the pitch is kept to its usual high standards, given we still have a home game on the final day of the season.

"With that in mind, we wish to remind supporters about the implications of any potential pitch invasions, at any point, during the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.

"At the end of last season, some clubs witnessed unsavoury and unwelcome scenes with a small minority of people entering the field of play whilst other fans took to the pitch in a celebratory mood.

"It is a criminal offence to enter the pitch and the real-life consequences for these actions have been felt by many with some fans receiving criminal records which can impact employment, education prospects and international travel."
