Neighbours shared their three horrifying words after human remains were found inside a nearby home.
An investigation is underway after Greater Manchester Police were contacted by a partner agency, with forensics arriving at the house in Wigan.
Horrified neighbours shared shocked rumours, saying: “It’s a baby”. Tragically, the whispers were true as police confirmed the remains of an infant were found inside.
Crime scene investigators have been working on the street for days following the grim discovery on Wednesday. GMP confirmed five people, aged between 20 and 70, have been arrested on suspicion of concealing a death and unlawful burial. All have been bailed pending further enquiries.
One shocked resident told Manchester Evening News : “I’ve lived here for seven years and I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve got kids. It is worrying.”

“I thought it was just a domestic incident at first - I saw a woman come out the house who seemed hysterical, but then CSI came and I thought there must be more to it.” Other witnesses said they saw several black sacks being taken out of the house and emptied into a skip.
Chief Superintendent Clare Jenkins from our Wigan district said: “This is a truly heart-breaking discovery, and I do not underestimate the impact this news will have on the local community.
“I would like to reassure you we have several teams of officers and specialist resources working diligently to find answers. You will likely notice an increased presence of our officers throughout the next week, if you have any concerns or want to share any confidential information, please do not hesitate to speak to them.
“In the coming days we will know more about the circumstances surrounding this incident, but we are confident this is isolated, and there is no threat to the wider public. At this stage we are keeping an open mind, and we will provide updates as soon as we can.”
