Former Manchester City youngster Jeremie Frimpong aimed a dig at Arsenal as he celebrated Bayern Leverkusen's Bundesliga title win with former Gunners star Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka left the Emirates Stadium last summer and has immediately become a title winner with Leverkusen. It is the first time they have won the German top-flight in their history, with Xabi Alonso's side remarkably still unbeaten in all competitions.

A 5-0 win over Werder Bremen gave them the three points they needed to end Bayern Munich's 11-year grip on the Bundesliga trophy. Xhaka had played a key role in Arsenal's bid for the Premier League last season, but was allowed to depart for Germany by Mikel Arteta.

The Swiss midfielder scored Leverkusen's second goal against Bremen, with a stunning long-range effort. The party started at the final whistle before continuing on into Bayer's dressing room.

During the celebrations, Frimpong began an Instagram Live stream, grabbing Xhaka to get involved. With his arm around the midfielder, Frimpong said: "Granit, you came from Arsenal and you won it here! My f*****g G!"

Frimpong spent nine years in City's academy, before joining Celtic in 2019 and has now become a title winner with Leverkusen in his third season at the club. City, meanwhile, have wrestled control of the Premier League title race away from Arsenal with six games remaining.

The Gunners lost to Aston Villa on Sunday, with City's demolition of Luton seeing them take a two-point lead in the race. Xhaka was keen to focus on his current team's achievement, having been left overawed by the title win.

"It’s difficult to find the right words [to sum up his emotions]. To come back after my first season in the league is unbelievable. We had a great season, a great game, not first half but second half we did well, and now we enjoy," he said.

"When you kick a ball at a young age, you dream of moments like this. It was hard work day by day, with everyone who was included in this club. In my 14 years football career, it’s special for me, but even more special for this club. Now we want more, and to take the others one as well."

While Xhaka will continue celebrating long into the summer, his former club endured a bitter blow in their own title race. But Gunners boss Arteta has insisted there is still plenty to play for with six games left.

"That’s a possibility, that’s the reality right now. It was the same a few months back, we knew that this moment could come. Now it’s about reacting and keep believing and doing what we can," he said after the defeat to Villa.

"When you look at the schedule of the games that we have to play every three days, it’s crazy. So this can happen to any team, it has happened in the past and we cannot control that at all. We can control how we are going to be now, prepare from tomorrow to give ourselves the best chance to go to Munich with big belief and win the game to go into the semi-finals."
