Team GB are forecasted to break the 60-medal barrier for the fourth Olympic Games in a row this summer.

But the number crunchers say it is touch and go whether they can better the 22 golds won in Tokyo three years ago.

According to the Gracenote’s Virtual Medal Table, Team GB will win 62 medals in Paris: 15 gold, 23 silver and 24 bronze - although never has a Games passed by without a number of surprise medals and breakthrough stars.

Here is the guide to some of the biggest podium contenders with 100 days to go until the 16-day sporting bonanza kicks off on July 26.

Athletics

While the men’s 1,500m promises fireworks, as Scotland ’s Josh Kerr goes up against Norway star Jacob Ingebrigtsen, Keely Hodgkinson appears the best chance of a gold medal on the track in the women’s 800m.

Laura Muir will again be in with a shout in the women’s 1,500m, while both 4x100m relay teams will fancy their chances of a medal.

Cycling

Katie Archibald looks in supreme form as she seeks yet more success in the velodrome with Ethan Hayter another expected on the podium. In the BMX discipline, Tokyo champion Bethany Shriever is a big favourite.

Rowing

Helen Glover’s second comeback for a fourth Olympics may dominate attention but GB will expect to land a number of medals at Vaires-sur-Marne. The men’s eight, four and pair plus Glover’s four are all highly fancied.

Swimming

Duncan Scott, with a four-medal haul from Tokyo, appears the most likely to land gold this summer. But the big talking point will be whether Adam Peaty, who has openly discussed his issues with alcohol and depression, can win the 100m breaststroke for a third straight Games.

Triathlon

GB have a number of big chances, spearheaded by Alex Yee. In Tokyo the south Londoner won individual bronze and gold in the team relay. Georgia Taylor-Brown has recovered from a calf injury and has eyes in both individual and team medals.

… and don’t forget skateboarding, where Tokyo breakout star Sky Brown will hope to turn bronze to gold - having fallen short in her bid to also qualify for the surfing event.
