Julian Nagelsmann is expected to return to Bayern Munich after this summer’s European Championships.

But his agent insists no deal is done yet - and the current Germany boss has spoken to other clubs about his next job.

Nagelsmann, 36, is one of Europe’s most high-profile coaches and will be available when Euro 2024 ends.

Little over a year after being axed by Bayern - admittedly on the say so of former members of the club’s hierarchy rather than those currently in charge in Bavaria - he is being lined up to return to the Allianz Arena to replace his successor, Thomas Tuchel. Bayern have already announced Tuchel will depart this summer after a chaotic campaign which has seen their stranglehold on the Bundesliga come to an end, but which could see the ex-Chelsea boss win the Champions League for the second time.

Nagelsmann has been linked with a number of other European jobs however, including Barcelona, where Xavi Hernandez is walking away, and Manchester United, where Erik ten Hag is under major pressure and all signs are pointing towards a change. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his new staff at Old Trafford are understood to admire Nagelsmann.

Liverpool too have been mooted as a potential destination, with Jürgen Klopp having elected to stand down and leave Anfield.

Now Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth, has revealed that an announcement regarding his client’s next gig could come very soon - potentially in the next week.

Struth told the Spielmacher podcast: ‘Everyone is asking me the question 'is Nagelsmann going back to Bayern' or 'what is he doing?' It will be decided soon. In the next five, six or seven days.

“It would be complete nonsense to say that we are not talking to interested parties. Without saying who the interested parties are, I can only say that it’s not just Bayern Munich [we are speaking to]. That’s normal.

“That’s my job and it would be a bit of a joke in the media to say we’re not in talks. Of course we are talking now.”

While that appears to rule out United, it keeps both Barca and Liverpool - both of whom are big admirers of Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim too - in play.

However, a return to Bayern for Nagelsmann still seems the most likely move this summer. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was asked if Nagelsmann might return after the win over Arsenal on Wednesday night and replied simply: “We’ll see.”
