Fans of Joe Alwyn were quick to rally behind him after Taylor Swift dropped her latest album.
The Blank Space songstress dropped her 11th studio album on Friday, announcing a secret second instalment moments after its release. Fans have been desperate to hear the new tracks on The Tortured Poets Department after dissecting the meaning behind the track titles, with many speculating the album was about her bitter break-up with Joe, whom she dated for six years.
Fans believe So Long, London is about her relationship with Joe. One particular lyric saw her seemingly say that she wanted to marry him and that their relationship struggled due to his alleged depression. She croons: "You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues? I died on the altar waiting for the proof / You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days."
Following the release of her album, Joe was forced to turn off the comments on his Instagram in an effort to stop the ongoing abuse from loyal Swifties - who have been open about their dislike for the actor. Thankfully, many fans of Joe jumped to his defence as they slammed Taylor for her lyrics.
One user said on X: "Not sure why Joe Alwyn is so hated when his worst crimes are being untalented unemployed and depressed like I’m sure many of you understand the struggle," while another said: "I’m actually obsessed with the reveal that Joe Alwyn’s crime was being depressed."
Sarah Lancashire feared telling TV bosses about 'debilitating depression battle'Another disappointed fan said: "If the people who listened to the leaks are right & it turns out Joe Alwyn really didn't do s**t aside from being too depressed to marry her, so many of you owe him an apology. solely for the amount of times he's been harassed by fans for the past year over rumours and speculations."
"Joe Alwyn literally got like 2 songs on the album.... his only crime was being too depressed to take big step like marriage. He was there at her lowest and she left him at his low point and then let her fans drag him. She is the manipulative weird one," one fan tweeted and another wrote: "Taylor Swift's new music is defending a problematic man, how her fans ruin everything & how Joe Alwyn's biggest crime was being depressed is so f**ked, that woman is borderline evil."
While Joe has decided to try and avoid the frenzy surrounding him after his ex released her new album, her fans have been quick to decipher the lyrics in an effort to understand what happened between the loved-up couple to cause them to part ways.
