Yoane Wissa was left frustrated with Thomas Frank after the Brentford boss denied him the opportunity to convert his brace into a hat-trick against Luton Town.
The Bees forward scored twice in the opening against the Hatters as the west London side prevailed 5-1 at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League. Wissa first delivered an expert first-time strike from the edge of the box after 24 minutes before putting Brentford 2-0 up in stoppage time with a poacher's finish from six yards out.
The 27-year-old was eventually replaced on 82 minutes after Ethan Pinnock and Keane Lewis-Potter extended the visitor's lead before Kevin Schade added the fifth before Luke Berry netted a late consolation. While the Bees were in a jubilant mood, Wissa made no secret of how he was feeling, however.
Come the full-time whistle, the DR Congo international was slowest to move from the bench as his side celebrated as he languished with his chin resting in his hands. Wissa refused to be consoled despite the best efforts of his coaching staff and admitted following the game he was disappointed with Thomas Frank's decision to replace him.
"Definitely, definitely," said the Brentford star. "I want to score a hat-trick. It is the first time I ever had the chance. Especially because we were obviously flying out there. I wanted a hat-trick, so unlucky on myself."
Premier League odds and betting tipsWissa is the Bees' top scorer so far this season with his eight strikes putting him ahead of both Bryan Mbeumo and Neal Maupay who have netted eight times each. The goalscorer ensured Ivan Toney was not missed as he was absent from Frank's squad and continues to recover from a hip injury.
Victory takes Brentford into 14th position in the Premier League and 10 points clear of Luton in 18th. Elsewhere, Burnley were able to narrow their gap to survival with a comfortable 4-1 away win against Sheffield United. The Clarets now sit three points behind Nottingham Forest, who hold a game in hand.
