Jamie Carragher slammed Nottingham Forest's statement

Jamie Carragher has slammed Nottingham Forest and labelled their statement questioning the integrity of the Premier League "embarrassing".

Nuno Espirito Santo's side were denied three penalties in their defeat by Everton on Sunday afternoon, and the club reacted by posting an angry statement on Twitter.

The club's statement read: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Carragher has been sympathetic to Forest's plight and suggested referee Anthony Taylor had a day to forget in addition to VAR Stuart Attwell. However, he believes the club showed a lack of class with the fiery statement.

"It tells you where we are in the Premier League now, with the clubs," Carragher said on Sky Sports following the game. "Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day today, awful, and they should be rightly criticised for that. That could have real implications for Nottingham Forest, I get the frustrations.

"But that, what I've just read there on social media, that's like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing for Nottingham Forest. I get the frustrations, but that rubbish about the VAR is a Luton fan? You can't get involved in that. You've got to show a little bit of class if you are a football club. I get it, the frustration, the officials have had an awful day, terrible. But you can't get involved in that. It's nonsense!"

Forest's 2-0 defeat leaves them one point ahead of Luton Town, who sit in the relegation zone. Everton lie one spot above in 16th place but are four points clear of the Midlands side after claiming the win at Goodison Park.
