A PETROLHEAD who specialises in "modern classic" motors has picked out two sports cars that can be bought right now for under £10,000.

James Russell, a car dealer and founder of The Motor Grid - a group that offers enthusiasts a carefully selected collection of modern classic vehicles - has revealed his two must-have examples that won't break the bank.

In an exclusive chat with Sun Motors, James first picked out the evergreen Porsche 987 Boxster - specifically the Gen1 model with the 2.7-litre engine.

James said: “The perfectly balanced, perfect under £10,000 sports car has got to be the 987 Boxster.

“Manual, flat-six, you just can’t go wrong. It's perfect.”

The petrolhead specified that drivers should keep a particular eye out for the late 2006 model to avoid any "IMS bearing issues."

James also picked out the wildly popular first generation Audi TT, particularly the Quattro Sport edition.

James added: “It's got that black roof, which makes it really iconic, and not many people know about that.

“They're a bit of a hidden gem, these cars, and of course they have Recaro seats.

“It's just a little bit special, so I think that would probably be my second choice.”

The Audi TT has become synonymous with the modern classic genre, especially after the German brand decided to discontinue the model last year.

The seriously cool car, which was first produced in 1998 and ran all the way through to November last year, boasts a top speed of 155 mph and a 0 to 60 acceleration of 5.7 seconds.

We previously asked James to pick his "quintessential modern classic sports car", which he believes is the iconic Lotus Elise S2.

The motoring expert has also revealed other modern classic motors that drivers can pick up "for peanuts" - including a £3,000 Porsche.

And elsewhere, Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has urged petrolheads to pick up a Porsche model that he says is a "more affordable" version of the iconic 911.
