LPGA Tour amateur Jasmine Koo struck one of the most remarkable shots ever seen as her ball bounced on a floating advertising board at The Chevron Championship.

On Sunday at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, Kim was one of six amateur golfers competing in the first major of the year. She was one of two amateurs to make the weekend cut, and she ensured she left her mark on the tournament.

Kim clinched the low amateur title for her efforts, which included one of the most unusual shots ever on the 18th. Her ball hit a floating advertising board in the middle of the water, bouncing onto the green where it settled on the green as Kim went on to clinch a birdie.

On the NBC broadcast, commentator Terry Gannon laughed in shock as the shot unfolded, declaring: “Oh! It hit the board, and hopped over! All right, this is the first time I’ve seen that.” Analyst Morgan Pressel was just as impressed, adding: “That is something I have never seen in all of my years playing and watching golf.”

Fans on X expressed their disbelief, too. Cameron Jourdan (@Cam_Jourdan) wrote: “Jasmine Koo out here playing chess when everyone else is playing checkers.”

However, Chris Reilly (@C_Reilly5) appeared to imply the shot was not lucky at all, adding: “She planned it, that’s crazy.”

Nelly Korda ultimately took the victory with a 13-under performance en route to a record-tying fifth-straight LPGA Tour win. Koo finished tied 13th after carding a three-under, which improved with the birdie on the 18th.

Koo’s dramatic birdie put her two strokes ahead of the other low amateur still involved, the No. 1-ranked women’s amateur Lottie Woad who recently became the Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion. Koo talked through her remarkable shot after The Chevron Championship concluded.

“I was really in between clubs, so I went with my 5-wood and chunked it because the ball was above my feet,” Koo told Golf Monthly. “Thankfully it finished on the fringe and I managed to get up-and-down for the birdie.”

Kim, the 20th-ranked amateur in the world, is a senior at Cerritos High in Southern California while she has committed to USC. She was a captain’s pick for the U.S. team in the Junior Solheim Cup last fall and is expected to become a regular contender on the LPGA Tour.
