Manchester United are set to allow Hannibal Mejbri to see out the season on loan at Birmingham City having impressed the Red Devils’ hierarchy this season.

The 20-year-old Tunisian international joined the Blues at the start of the campaign for a season-long loan spell. He has impressed in a central midfield role in the Midlands with 23 appearances for the side and four assists since.

There have been calls for the Red Devils to recall Mejbri following the injury sustained by Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen during the FA Cup victory over Reading at the weekend. However, the Old Trafford decision-makers are set to allow the youngster to continue his development in Birmingham for the remainder of the campaign.

According to BirminghamLive, Mejbri will not be recalled on deadline day and he will be available to the Championship side for the remainder of the season. The youngster himself has already expressed his intentions to make an impression ahead of eventually progressing into the United first-team.

As quoted by CGTN, he said: “I just need some experience and that is what I have in the Championship with Birmingham. When I will be back, I will do the pre-season and see what's going on."

Opening up further on his long-term plans with GOAL, he added: "I am currently playing for Manchester United - and my goal is to achieve any achievement with the best team in the world. I am in Birmingham until next June, and I do my best to serve the team, and will return to Manchester United and I do not know what is in the future."

Mejbri initially arrived at United on a youth transfer from French giants Monaco in the summer of 2019. He made his debut for the side on the final day of the 2020/21 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a brief cameo against Wolves.

He has gone on to earn a further two appearances for the Red Devils and will next hope to be in action for Birmingham as they take on second-tier rivals Blackburn in an FA Cup fourth round replay on Tuesday evening. Mejbri is not the only United youngster currently catching the eye in the Championship this season.

Winger Amad Diallo has played a key role for Sunderland throughout the campaign and has seven goals to his name already.

21-year-old defender Ethan Laird has also impressed for Queens Park Rangers having been a near ever-present for the London side this season.

Whilst the trio look unlikely to be returning to Old Trafford for the time being, a few other players might potentially be on their way out before Tuesday evening’s deadline. Defensive duo Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been at the heart of enquiries from Italian giants Inter Milan.
