New road markings have left people scratching their heads as they try to figure out if a road is a no-entry or no-exit route. A picture of newly-painted road markings has been shared to Reddit as it appears to read "do not exit, enter only" but then has arrows pointing outwards indicating it's an exit.

The picture, shared on a thread titled 'mildly infuriating', has been widely debated over whether the text or the arrows are wrong as some have claimed it's "an accident waiting to happen". Comments have flooded the Reddit thread as one person responded: "I read it as “do not exit, enter only” with the arrows contradicting that. I know it’s “do not enter, exit only” but whoever painted this does not know about line spacing/punctuation. Even a simple “exit only” in bold text would fix the problem."

Some people have responded as one person replied: "Yeah I thought it was the arrows that were wrong. That signage is an accident waiting to happen." Another joined in as they shared: "Oh wow I would have never figured that out."

They weren't the only ones to read it wrong either as another person shared: "It looks like "do not exit, enter only" gosh dang the word spacing. That only took me 30 seconds and reading other comments to process this."

"Excuse me while I go and pluck my eyeballs out with a rusty spork. Someone else followed the letter of the job instructions, not the intent," a frustrated person added. Another suggested a simple fix: "Two symbols of 'NO' ᴓ painted over the arrows would fix the problem!"

Yet due to the wording, some claimed the arrows were in fact wrong and it meant drivers should enter but not exit via the path. One person posted: "The right arrow is facing the wrong way", but was swiftly corrected by another user who clarified: "No, the arrows are right. The words are just spaced unevenly. DO NOT ENTER, EXIT ONLY."

Another person pointed out to follow the arrows and ignore the text as they suggested: "It is definitely confuzzling whether it says Do Not Enter, Exit Only... or Do Not Exit, Enter Only. But there's nothing ambiguous about those big ass arrows."
