Gary Goldsmith 'sets sights on huge TV show' after CBB appearance

Gary Goldsmith has reportedly set his sights on more TV work after starring in Celebrity Big Brother.

Though the 58-year-old, who is Kate Middleton’s uncle, was the first to be voted off ITV’s revamped version of the show, he is said to be hoping it leads to more air time and is apparently eyeing up a role on Dragon’s Den next.

Known for his work in IT recruitment, Gary runs several businesses, as well as hosting a podcast called Pints of View and is reportedly worth around £30 million in his own right. Though he has earned the nickname ‘buncle – bad uncle – over the years following a few run ins with the law, he is thought to want to pass on his business acumen to others, so being a Dragon on Dragon’s Den could be a perfect fit.

If the rumours are true, he could soon be joining the likes of Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Sara Davies, Touker Suleyman and Steven Bartlett. “Gary has a number of successful businesses and he wants to use his new platform to help others. He has mooted the idea of becoming one of the Dragons and thinks it could be a great move for him,” a source said.

The source told The Sun: “Gary is an astute businessman and the idea of helping out new entrepreneurs is something he’s keen to dabble in. His time on Celebrity Big Brother showed a different side to Gary. He’s a normal guy who has done well for himself and he wants to try and give something back. Gary has his Pints of View podcast where he talks about business but he thinks being on Dragon’s Den could be a bigger platform for him.”

Dragon’s Den also asks guest Dragons on the show, so there is a chance Gary could make an appearance as a guest rather than a permanent fixture. Recent guests have included former footballer Gary Neville and CEO of denim company Good American, Emma Grede. The Mirror has approached Gary’s reps for further comment on this story.

The Royal Family were reportedly unhappy about Gary appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, so may not be happy about further TV appearances where he could mention their names. Speaking in his CBB exit interview, Gary said he hoped to change his ‘bad uncle’ image.

He shared: "It does hurt for when you're always referred to being a 'bad uncle'. I wanted to change that. What an opportunity to have a sneaky peek behind the world of celebrity. I've tried to be myself, chuck in a royal thing a little too often. It was interesting to see an insight into their world. In my world, I am centre of attention, but this is a different level."
