Ralf Rangnick is in pole position to become the next Bayern Munich boss, according to reports.

The German giants are on the look out for a new manager with Thomas Tuchel departing once the campaign ends. The Bavarians have surrendered their Bundesliga crown for the first time in 11 years and those at the Allianz Arena are determine to get back on top.

Rangnick is highly thought of in his homeland, leading several clubs and pioneering philosophies that have swept the country. He had a difficult stint in charge at Manchester United, but TZ claims he's the man in the driving seat to become the next Bayern boss.

The club had eyed Xabi Alonso, the man who has just led Bayer Leverkusen to the title, but he had opted to remain where he is. Julian Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern before they appointed Tuchel but he was considered, however he's remaining as the German national boss.

It has left Bayern seeking new candidates and Rangnick has become the frontrunner. He is currently in charge of Austria and will lead them into the Euros this summer. He recently said: “I still have a contract until 2026 and our goal and our path will continue after the Euro."

However he could yet leave for the Bavarians, if he does end up being offered the role. Rangnick succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December 2021 in Manchester but only won 11 of his 29 games at Old Trafford - giving him a win percentage of less than 40% - as he gave a damning review of the club before departing.

Roberto De Zerbi is another man on the Bayern radar. The Brighton and Hove Albion boss is tipped to eventually take a job at one of Europe's major clubs with Liverpool also keen as they seek a replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl has compiled a relatively small shortlist and wants to find a conclusion sooner rather than later. He said at the weekend: “We want to do it as quickly as possible, but also as thoroughly as possible."

Tuchel could yet leave the Allianz Arena as a European champion having guided Bayern into the last four of the Champions League. They will face Real Madrid in the last four with the final to come at Wembley - the scene of their European success in 2013.
